“Blackbeard’s Hand”, oils on 12×16″ stretched canvas, 2018
Prints and more available through Fine Art America.
Legend has it that Blackbeard used to frequent this marshy area just off the Chesapeake Bay to hide out and replenish his ship’s stores. He was also rumoured to have buried a treasure right here by a small lake. Could this shadow from the full moon at the autumnal equinox be his hand pointing to the treasure which has never been found? Maybe he did it on a Night like this…
Painted from a picture taken the previous year on a hike in Virginia Beach’s First Landing State Park of the tidal creek that drains White Hill Lake, imagining how it looks under a Full Moon.
