Painted from a series of photos taken the afternoon of June 7, 2013 around 50-55th Streets, Virginia Beach, as Tropical Storm Andrea, the first of the Season, passed by.  It was a bit bizarre; an early Tropical Storm, uncharacteristically cold water had everyone in wet suits, a calm fell between wind shifts allowing a fog to settle in, kids all over the Beach, mostly waiting for the Waves to gain Form, and a pair of pure black and pure white Poodles, seemingly unaccompanied, frolicked in the Surf, lending a Felliniesque touch to the scene. A poem accompanies the painting, most of it written that day.

Andrea in the Afternoon

Tropical Storm…
down at the Beach today…
Heavy Rains on and off…

Then the wind started Blastin’…
Trees swayin’…
Flags frayin’…

Some folks…
listened to the radio…
and stayed dry inside…

But the Kids are All Right…
and headed to the Beach…

Skip school…
ditch work…
it’s all Happenin’…
by the Surf…

Who in their Right Mind…
could ignore the Summons…
of the Caribbean Air…
passin’ through…
